She Soars, by Ajuanae – Winter 2020 Grad
She soars blindly in the darkness with no notion of guidance
Filled with hopefulness, and perseverance driven by her children’s joyful laughter
The tiny giggles used as motivation to land her
Whispers of the of wise women before her and their insightful affirmations
She uses as her navigation
Through treacherous trenches, one would call life
She isn’t decelerated nor discouraged
As she glides through with courage
For this girl knows that she has a purpose
Her knight here on earth is her reason for being
Her Guardian in heaven is her reason for believing
Continuously attacked by the envious
Because she is a conquer and her blessings are endless
Regardless of her demons
Her fight seems so seamless
Enemies are taken aback by her presence
Intimidated because her mind generates a different form of intelligence
As she manifests and progress through stress
With nothing more than a smile of happiness
Hurting but still has the leisure to assist the helpless
Healing the broken
With encouraging words genuinely spoken
The ridicule only strengthens her
Feuling her, and maneuvering her peacefully through the wicked swarms of treachery
Longing and wanting to be free, falsely smiling through her grief
Gracefully yearning through her journey
Still soaring as her tears are pouring
Empathizing and rationalizing falsely smiling
Wings push beyond its limits in its entirety
Loud and vibrant, but hurting quietly
Knowing soon she will find her light
And peace to her soul
Instead of a war, she has to continuously fight
She Soars
What circumstances brought you to where you were before you joined Together We Bake?
Ajuanae: Being alone for so long, no one understood my circumstances. I was in extreme need of support. Speaking with a friend, she recommended TWB! She spoke so highly of the program, and I decided to inquire.
What inspired you to apply to Together We Bake?
Ajuanae: My best friend passed recently. Before she passed, we conversed about it. I guess part of me did this program for her.
Has someone at Together We Bake (a fellow participant, a Volunteer, an instructor, etc.) had a particular influence on you?
Ajuanae: Alexis Robinson.
How would you describe Together We Bake?
Ajuanae: Empowering, supportive.
What do you feel is the most valuable thing Together We Bake does?
Ajuanae: Together We Bake encourages women’s empowerment, self love and positive change.
What is the most valuable thing you learned at Together We Bake?
Ajuanae: I learned my worth, I learned to humble myself when the world seems to begin closing in so that I can conquer life’s hurdles; and I learned to bake!
What was the most challenging thing about the program? How did you overcome that challenge?
Ajuanae: Being able to coexist with the other women! I am irritable and impatient when it comes to certain things. Hearing stories and enduring personalities I found common interest and comfort in knowing I am not alone. The way that I seek patience, empathy and understanding, I was able to learn to give it.\
