Meet Biruktait

Biruktait has lived in the US for the past 3 years, emigrating from Ethiopia to Dubai, then from Dubai to the US. She is a loving mother and wife, eager to create a better future for her family. She came to Together We Bake this past Winter and took her first steps towards empowerment. Biruktait discovered new ways to cope with her emotions and stress, and she learned important business skills so she can one day open her own bakery. Today, Biruktait is working at Fontaine Caffe & Creperie, and we couldn’t be more proud of her! Read more about Biruktait’s story below.
What circumstances brought you to where you were before you joined Together We Bake?
Biruktait: My desire to build confidence and to gain more knowledge brought me to TWB.
What inspired you to apply to Together We Bake?
Biruktait: I was inspired by the baking aspect and hope to start my own bakery business one day.
How has Together We Bake changed your perspective on life?
Biruktait: TWB helped me realize that if I work hard, I can achieve anything.
Has someone at Together We Bake (a fellow participant, a volunteer, an instructor, etc.) had a particular influence on you?
Biruktait: Yes, Stephanie opened the door and embraced me when Alexandria City refused to pay for me.
How would you describe Together We Bake?
Biruktait: It is a place that gives hope and a second chance (it feels like my second home).
What do you feel is the most valuable thing Together We Bake does?
Biruktait: The sisterhood environment and the value you give to every one of us is so valuable.
What is the most valuable thing you learned at Together We Bake?
Biruktait: To work together and to share with others.
What was the most challenging thing about the program? How did you overcome that challenge?
Biruktait: I have not encountered any challenges.
What is something you are proud of that you achieved because of your participation in Together We Bake?
Biruktait: I am proud that I gained confidence through this program.
What advice do you have for women considering applying to Together We Bake?
Biruktait: TWB is a place for everyone who desires to advance in life.
