Welcome to our new site!

We've been baking up a new website this summer and it's time to take it out of the oven! Please be patient as it's cooling and we get it ready for "delivery."

Meet Casey

Meet Casey

Published July 02, 2019

Casey is one-of-a-kind! She graduated from our Spring 2019 program and just got a job at INOVA. Casey’s commitment to showing up each day, on time, despite having to work an overnight shift at iHop, inspired her fellow team members to show up as well. Her smile and positive attitude are contagious. We could always count on Casey to uplift the other women in the program. Read more about Casey’s story below!

What circumstances brought you to where you were before you joined Together We Bake?

Casey: I heard of Together We Bake from the skillsource center in Annandale. I wanted to get my Food Handlers licence so I could embark on getting my nutrition management degree in order to become a nutritionist. I hope to open up my own home health agency.

What inspired you to apply to Together We Bake?

Casey: I kept seeing the TWB flyers, plus I love to bake – I used to do it with my Grandmother on my mother’s side.

How has Together We Bake changed your perspective on life?

Casey: TWB showed me I can develop friendships with other women who have similar experiences as myself.

Has someone at Together We Bake (a fellow participant, a volunteer, an instructor, etc) had a particular influence on you?

Casey: All of the women at Together We Bake have had a positive influence on me. I now know that I can have female friends.

How would you describe Together We Bake?

Casey: I would describe it more as a sisterhood than a training program. It shows women can work together and accomplish things with peace and love.

What do you feel is the most valuable thing Together We Bake does?

Casey: It brings women together who wouldn’t have met each other if it wasn’t for Together We Bake.

What is the most valuable thing you learned at Together We Bake?

Casey: I can let my guard down around my sisters, and I can finally express myself without judgement.

Do you have any specific memories of experiences at Together We Bake?

Casey: When I first met Brian and told him I wanted to enroll in Together We Bake. I also remember being very excited about it, being on pins and needles.

What was the most challenging thing about the program? How did you overcome that challenge?

Casey: Working at night and still coming to class, but I pushed right along and persevered.

What is something you are proud of that you achieved because of your participation in Together We Bake?

Casey: I completed the program and extended my family.

What advice do you have for women considering applying to Together We Bake?

Casey: Do it! You won’t regret enrolling in it.
