Hello, my name is Lakeisha. I am dedicated to making a future for myself. A big part of that is not forgetting my past and not repeating any mistakes.
I am so happy to be a part of Together We Bake. I came across the program through the Bethany Women’s Center, a day service program where I receive meals, clothing, a shower, a place to sleep, and medical care. I like all of Together We Bake. I like the group, baking, preparing kale, making cookies from scratch, and learning the material for ServSafe.
After Together We Bake, I’m hoping to get a job in the food service to use my ServSafe certification and to enhance my skills and experience necessary for my career.
I’ve had several different experiences where I didn’t get to graduate. I couldn’t just see my education ending after being arrested. In March, I received my acceptance letter to my online classes, which I am currently taking through the University of Maryland. I love science and hope to one-day end up as a medical officer. I’m taking a nutrition class this summer and am enthusiastic to use my Together We Bake experience during that period.
My advice is to be careful of the company you keep, and stay focused when you set your goals. I would also encourage people to not take things for granted because many aren’t given the same opportunity, or they are and don’t accept challenges. I’m excited for my graduation from Together We Bake, and I’m so thankful for all that I’ve learned from the program. I’m on the right path now. I’m looking forward to becoming a part of a success story and a positive and productive member of society.
