Together We Bake is INSPIRATION, EMPOWERING, and LIFE CHANGING.
Najay, Fall 2019 Graduate
Before joining Together We Bake, I was studying biology at Prince George’s Community College. I had secured financial aid for the year, but just when I was about to finish my second semester, I had to drop out due to issues with my tax information.
I didn’t let this set me back, and I continued pushing forward. I was still working retail but decided baking was something I could be passionate about. My mom suggested I look into the Virginia Workforce, so I went and they helped me enroll in the TWB program. I’m excited and happy to pursue a new career – supported by beautiful, strong women.
My grandmother inspired my love for cooking and baking. When I heard about TWB and its empowerment mission, I thought to myself, “Wow, what a blessing it is to have a program in this world that helps women change their lives for the better.” I could not wait to start the program!
Together We Bake has changed my perspective on life. It has taught me that the sky’s the limit! I can do anything and be anything I want to do or be. TWB has encouraged me to live life to the fullest and appreciate each day – even if I’m not having a good day.
“Coach” Colida, “Loving” Liz, and Teresa taught me how to be a hard-worker and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. At the start of program, I struggled with public speaking and sharing my thoughts and opinions in groups because I was nervous and afraid of being judged. Each of my instructors helped me along the way, and now I’m comfortable speaking out loud and engaging with people. I am so grateful for their help – without it, I don’t know what I’d do.
Together We Bake gives women the tools to better their lives. TWB offers new beginnings and support in job-readiness and finding a new career path.
This program taught me that it is ok to express how I’m feeling. It reminded me that I am not alone in my experience and that other people go through similar things. It’s taught me that I’m allowed to make mistakes – that’s a part of life. I will continue to learn and grow as I go.
I will never forget my first day at Together We Bake. I met “Coach” Colida, and I automatically started helping her in the kitchen. It was a fun experience – plus I learned how to make TWB cookie dough from scratch!
Working as a team with other women and speaking up in groups was really difficult for me. I am used to working by myself, but I eventually learned that there is nothing wrong with teamwork. Now I’m comfortable working in groups!
I am really proud that I’ve grown and become more comfortable with public speaking. I have always been quiet and shy, but joining TWB helped me overcome my fear of speaking up.
If you love to bake, enjoy working with women, you are ready to change your life around, then Together We Bake is for you!
