Meet Tihirah

Tihirah recently graduated from our Fall 2018 class. She is a strong, motivated, hard-worker and has a fierce love for her family! She started our program looking to gain baking experience, but found much more in the friendships and relationships she made with the other women.

Giving Tuesday is a few short weeks away. In 2017 we raised over $3,000 to help cover transportation costs. In 2018, we’re aiming to raise $5,000 to help pay for  transportation for all of the amazing women, like Tihirah, who make up Together We Bake.

My job was coming to an end, and I needed something else to do. I applied to Together We Bake for 2 reasons. 1. To accompany my cousin in the program. We applied and were accepted back in 2015, but life happened, and we were both unable to do the program. 2. I wanted to incorporate baking into my existing catering business.

I try to find a lesson in everything I do. This program has plenty to learn from. I did learn how to find time and peace for myself. If I am no good to myself, how can I be good to and for anyone else? I’ve gained some real friendships in these past 7 weeks. Some of these ladies will be a part of my life forever.

Together We Bake is a life changing experience. The staff is very supportive of every woman that walks through the doors. I’ve learned it is okay to be who you are, without judgement, and you should NOT be afraid to express the real you.

The most memorable event for me was the photo shoot. I was very impressed with the time and patience the glam squad had with us. If my confidence was low, then it was definitely boosted by the time I stepped in front of the camera.

The most challenging thing about the program was learning the personalities of 9 other women and how to deal with them. Finding peace within my day is how I overcame this.

I am very proud of completing the negotiation skills class. It is something I can apply to my everyday life.

If I could leave women considering this program with anything, it would be, don’t give up before your miracle happens. This program can be a life changing experience if you allow it. They really teach you the ins and outs of running a legitimate business.
