Twist Boutique Hosts Clothing Resale Event Benefiting Together We Bake

ALEXANDRIA, VA —Twist Boutique, a women’s consignment boutique, located in Old Town Alexandria, will be hosting a clothing resale event at the Old Town Community Church, 212 S. Washington St. on Saturday, March 14 from 8am-2pm to benefit local nonprofit Together We Bake. This event is open to the public with all proceeds going directly to Together We Back. Twist Boutique will be donating all the clothing and accessories for the event.
Kristen Moore, a former lobbyist, opened Twist Boutique in November 2017 to provide a new “Twist” on American fashion, and features consigned, vintage and new clothing and accessories created by local designers. Recently, Twist became one of the only retail locations in Alexandria to sell Together We Bake products to the public, offering a new benefit for clients and an additional venue for Together We Bake to raise money for their expanding program.
“Giving back to the community has always been a priority for me personally and as a shop owner I am pleased we can help local women with items we have to offer while raising money for the organization at the same time. My hope is that the community will shop and support Together We Bake so their students and graduates can enjoy a shopping experience without financial worry or strain,” said Kristen Moore, Owner, Twist Boutique.
Together We Bake (TWB), founded in 2012, is a job training program to help women within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in need – women involved in the criminal justice system, facing long-term unemployment, and/or experiencing homelessness. Their mission is to help women gain self-confidence, transferable workforce skills, and invaluable hands-on experience which will allow them to find sustainable employment and move toward self-sufficiency.

Friends and co-founders Tricia Sabatini and Stephanie Wright launched the organization while training for the Marine Corps Marathon. In 2016, the organization merged with Fruitcycle, which made snacks from picked-over produce and had hired employees through Together We Bake, bringing on its founder and Alexandria City Vice-Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker as co-director. The products, such as cinnamon-pecan granola and chocolate chip cookies, are made by TWB students and employees and sold online and in local stores, with proceeds feeding back into a program that also relies on grant funding and private donations. On completion of the course, graduates receive their ServSafe certification (a nationally recognized food safety credential) and employment assistance with partners of the organization.
