What to Expect from TWB

If accepted to the program, Team Members will actively learn and participate in food production, food safety education, business administration, and overall job readiness. We also teach empowerment and life-skills classes to help Team Members develop self-confidence, healthy coping strategies, and a strong support network as they move toward self-sufficiency.

Each woman graduates job-ready, empowered, and with a nationally-recognized ServSafe certificate, which can result in preferential hiring and higher wages.

TWB also stays in touch with our Alumni well after they graduate, offering help with employment, access to services, or social support. We host regular Alumni events that are open to our entire community of graduates, and we stay connected to Alumni through multiple platforms.

TWB typically has three sessions per year in the Winter, Spring, and Fall. Each session is 8-10 weeks long and takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Lunch is provided for all Team Members.

Summer 2024 Session (Spanish-speaking session): July 9 - August 15

Fall 2024 Session: September 17 - November 7

Classes are typically held at our training kitchen and classroom located in Old Town Alexandria. We rent space at Old Town Community Church:

212 South Washington Street
Alexandria, VA 22314

Whether you are using public transportation or have your own vehicle, we will provide a transportation stipend in order for you to get to and from Together We Bake.

TWB’s training program is free. Transportation stipends are available to all Team Members. A program stipend is also provided at the end of the program based on punctuality and attendance. Together We Bake is supported through the sales of our products, donations, and grants.

Prospective Team Member Open House

TWB holds open house information sessions (option of in-person or over Zoom) for prospective Team Members during the month prior to each session starting. Please reach out to Lisbeth if interested in attending the next open house or learning more about the upcoming sessions.

What if I’ve never baked before?

No previous culinary experience is required to participate in Together We Bake. We are looking for motivated women who want to pursue personal and professional development and growth.

When and how will I hear back about my acceptance?

Once you have submitted your application, we will contact you to schedule an interview. Decisions are made on a rolling basis. You will be notified of your status by phone or email.
